is often seen either as part of a manfacturer mark or standalone addition and stands for art department. Many of these art departments simply (re)decorated standard production items in a more elaborate manner, others (depending on manufacturer) even created their own designer series.
Good example for the latter would be the art department of Rosenthal, which not only signed responsible for numerous outstanding decorations on standard items but also showed responsible for the complete Rosenthal Studio Line designerware.
