as well as Ges. mbH and GmbH are all abbreviations of the German company form Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, a company with limited liability. It is a type of legal entity and the most common company form in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; the owners of the entity are not personally liable for the company's debts.
There are various forms of this business type (e.g. GmbH & Co.), the most common however is the GmbH & Co. KG which represents a limited partnership with the sole general partner being a limited liability company, combining the advantages of a partnership with those of the limited liability of a corporation.
Even if the abbreviation is quite similar, a GmbH should not be confused with the business form e.GmbH which has a completely different background.
